There used to be a people called Israel in Biblical times. God, the living God of the Bible, created these people. They were the descendants of Abraham, a Syrian coming out of the land of the Chaldeans. God commanded Abraham to leave Chaldea and go to Canaan, present-day Palestine. Abraham (whose name at the time was Abram) lived among the people of Canaan as a stranger. He never owned a piece of that land until he needed to bury his wife, Sarah. To do that, Abraham bought a cave from the people of Canaan.
