Every religion has its gods. The world is full of religions and gods. But in the beginning it was not so. There was one God and no religion.
The God of the Bible is the true God, and the only way to know Him is by reading and understanding the Scriptures, because He reveals Himself, to whom He wants, in it.
Many “Christians” have been erroneously taught that the God of the Bible (who btw is not the God of any other religion) looks like a benign, benevolent old man with a long beard sitting down on a throne. That He is calling everybody, inviting them with a soft, crying voice to come to him, and that people can reject him.
People believe that the God of Christianity loves everyone and that He sent Christ to die for the whole world. If this were so, then the whole world would be Christian and saved. However, that is not the case at all.
This picture of God, created by the mind of the wicked (Satan) and his ministers, is false. This is the image of a powerless, pitiful god. He is no different than the mythological gods, which are products of men’s imaginations.
The true God reveals Himself in His Scripture of Truth as an omnipotent, omniscient, and above everything else, holy God. A God who loves His people, but who condemns the unrighteous. A God who saves, but a God who also damns.
God is the Creator. He created man and everything in the universe. He created man with a soul and a spirit, for the purpose of creating a people for Himself. God also determined the fall of men. It was His purpose to reveal Himself in the face of Jesus Christ, and to show His glory in the work of redemption.
God is holy, righteous, and just. He loves His people, but He hates sin and the wicked who practice sin shamelessly. God gave His truth to His people that they would be able to walk in His way. God cleanses, purifies, and sanctifies His people out of the filthiness of this cursed humankind.
God is not like man. God is truth, and light. There is no darkness in Him. He is saving His people from their sins and from death with a powerful, outstretched arm. So, do not imagine God as a little, sweet old guy begging you to come to him. He is not doing that.
God is powerful beyond our comprehension, and when He calls, He will regenerate, He will cleanse, He will give faith, and He will give His people a new heart after His own mind. He equips His people with an armour to fight against sin.
On the other hand, if God does not give you ears to hear, He will damn you for eternity. That’s the terrible truth we should not ignore.
